Dreamfall, the sequel to the PC adventure game The Longest Journey, will be released on April 17. TLJ was a fantastic game with good graphics (for its time), interesting puzzles and a great story. Edit: Apparently the date is April 20.

Tomb Raider Legend, pretty neat, but it was over way too quickly. Still it was a nice break from school, GW and oblivion.

Update on Oblivion from me!
I just recently got a new computer (check the notes under my avatar for specs...it's quite nice). Runs Oblivion with every option, save antialiasing (what does it even do?) on as high as it can go, at a steady 30FPS. The game actually looks so nice, I can't play it for more than an hour at a time.

I can run oblivion on high settings at 1280x1024, minus HDR (since my 850XT doesn't support that), I only have 1 gig of ddr2 RAM and a P4 3.6 gHz, so you can get oblivion running good on an average rig.

In other news, Duke Nukem Forever will supposedly be out this year. Stop laughing. According to this article at Gamasutra, it really is progressing. However, this quote doesn't inspire much confidence: '[3DR's George] Broussard was bashful, overall, about showing off the game, commenting: "The problem is that when we show it, people are going to be like, 'Yeah, whatever'. Honestly, at this point we just want to finish it." ' "Yeah, whatever?" Sounds like DNF may be the Dai Katana of 2006.

Half-Life 2: Episode One is due for release on May 31, according to Amazon. Preview articles in the gaming mags say it may be a bit sooner that that, but who knows. According to the articles, it will feature about 4-5 hours of game play and will be a stand-alone game; the original HL2 will not be required. Includes Half-Life Deathmatch (upgraded to the Source engine) and Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. Not bad for only $20 retail. Probably about the only game that can distract me from GW for any length of time.

Update on Oblivion from me! save antialiasing (what does it even do?) on as high as it can go, at a steady 30FPS.. A belated semi-answer to your question Yoko, I was messing around with the antialiasing I noticed that when it was lower, the graphics were significantly worse, infact, with no antialiasing the graphics were about the same as morrowinds, but when I upped it to 2x it got a ton better. Also tried it on 4x, they were a little better, but not enough to make it worth having the game run slower on my compy.

Here's a guide from gamespot about oblivion hardware setup, including benchmarks for different graphic cards, and comparisons on how different detail setups will look. www.gamespot.com/features/6147127/index.htmlAntialiasing is a way to "blur" jagged edges by making the pixels more or less transparent around the edges, so the image appears to be more smooth. Xaja is basically right.

I just have some quick questions about Obivion: 1) Is there multiplayer/co-op or is it all single player? 2) Is there an editor for modding of any kind? 3) I'm kind of poor at the moment but everyone keeps telling me about Oblivion. Personally, I haven't really gotten into a single player RPG since Interplay's Lord of the Rings in the early 1990s... Should I seriously consider sometime getting Oblivion even though great multiplayer and modding has soured me on single-players. 4) If there is a toolset, how hard is it to use? I have been eagerly checking out NWN 2. I'm excited by all they will add to the toolset and everything, but I'm afraid that the introduction of hardcore 3D graphics will take the "lay out a tile set" seen the original, which I can do, and turn it into something like the Unreal engine, which I've tried, but is so crazy and open-ended that it takes me forever to do anything. I was a pretty decently badass NWN modder in college (still am, but who still plays NWN?), I'd hate to see all those skills be rendered useless by the sequel.

1) It's all single player 2) Yes 3) If you have a good enough computer you could consider getting Oblivion. Since the main plot takes about 200 hours, and there is a huge amount of sidequests, it would last quite some time. 4) I haven't tried the editor yet so I can't say. I think the new Aurora Engine for NWN2 will be quite similar in difficulty to the old one in NWN. The scripting language is the same for both, so your skills won't be useless.

I tried one of the "Might and Magic" games once and it was hideous. A friend tells me that "Heros of Might and Magic" is a much better game but I've never tried it again...

There is a new demo for HoMMV... somewhere on the net... Penny Arcade said it is night and day better than the previous demo that seemed to force the devs to delay release...

Yeah, another belated response to something from me. woot! That is mostly correct, Ronin, however the main quest is very short, I beat it in about a week or so, I think it runs 20-25 hours, although there is other things to do in the game after you beat the main quest.

I downloaded the HoM&MV demo the other night (took 6 hours!), and have played it a bit. It's fun, especially levelling your hero characters, but I have a feeling that gameplay could get incredibly repetitive after completing only a few campaigns. Frankly - that's usually what happens when I play turn-based games. I get bored before the end of the story, especially because turns start to take longer and longer and longer to complete. Now that I'm into Guild Wars, I think I have grown even more impatient. Guild Wars may have spoiled all other games for me.

Ok one more edit -- found this on Metafilter. Seems a guild in WOW raided a memorial service (in game) for a person who died IRL. wtf?!?! I'm seriously pissed off. What a classless thing to do. And from reading some of the comments, it seems as if most of the gaming community thinks that the raid was 1) a good idea 2) funny. Nothing funny about someone's IRL death. I'm oh so glad this didn't happen in GW.

I mentioned it to my co-workers that play WoW, and they were shocked as well. I guess that they (those holding the memorial) were recording it to give to the late player's parents, and were attacked by their rival faction...some people are sick.
