Hey all, I'll freely admit that this thread was inspired by one at GH. I know we have a lot of GW experience here at BGN. So maybe we can come up with a list of helpful tips for first time GW players. Or maybe tips that other may not know. ------------------------------------------ I'll start it off: To see the big world map (and to travel to other places quickly) you click on the blue button on your compass To get back to your normal screen when you are on the big map you click the same place

Oh! Also, when you are adventuring with a party--don't run off by yourself and activate the monsters--unless it is your job to act as the bait.

You can also press M to bring your map up and M to exit it..... Also when you have a party make sure there is at least 1 monk in it cause they can rezz over and over.

When questing with others that have a monk or 1/2 monk with resurect skills, don't waste your signet on resurecting someone, let the monk do it. Save your signet for when the monk is dead (and raise her/him first).
EDIT: added him as a pronoun; although, had I only used 'him' I would have received the same response, only from the other gender. Darned if you do...

Try to use warriors to 'tank' or go out front and take damage, spellcasters can't pull it off too well. Try to sort out any connect problems before playing. Do not let Centaurs poo on you!

(*) Believe it or not WAIT is actually part of a strategy. It is helpful in the Centaur area if one tank or ranger whomever can run faster baits a few centaurs and brings them to the others when everyone including the pets ( animals and necro pets included ) can harness their energy and thereby kill those beasts!!! In doing so, your party CAN make it through that part of the map and stay alive!!!

It may look like a warrior but also pack a strong Elementalist punch. There will be a set of letters above characters heads in the mission area--learn what they mean b/c it can help you when forming a party.

Oh and if your a ranger dont go face to face with a charr we rangers tend to have the lowest health of em all Actually that's something else for 1st timers to know. All classes, regardless of gender or secondary class, have the exact number of hit and base energy points lvl for lvl. So a level 10 Warrior will have the same number of hit point (or life points) as a level 10 Monk. However armor makes a difference in energy lvl--casters get more energy with their armor than non-caster ** but remember the armor is based on primary class.

These are very important strategies and can mean death or victory.
As an example, I had grouped with a full group and entered the mission (not sure which one). We had one person (the highest level) drop (lan connection). When this happened, the others (except my self and another) drop b/c they didn't feel like they would have a chance. So the two of us, took our time and methodically finished the mission without dying.

This is a copy and paste from a thread that X started--I think it's important that it is here as well
-------------------------------------------------------------------- * If your party only has one healer, do not talk to the healer while a monster is aggro and beating on a party member. * If your party only has one healer, do not whisper to the healer while a monster is aggro and beating on a party member. * If your party only has one healer, do not trade with that character while a monster is aggro and beating on a party member. * The target calling system in GW is a thing of beauty, we must designate a target caller and use this effectively. * Using an arrow to pull one monster at a time to it's doom is beauty as well. * General stragety: Pull, focus fire, heal, repeat. * If your focus fire mages are out of mana, stop pulling monters. * If your only healer is out of mana, stop pulling monsters. * If possible, have more than one healer. * If the healer starts taking damage, you will not be healed while the healer runs away. * Only one healing spell can be cast at a time, thus the less monsters aggro-ed, the more likely you'll live. * Healing spells are not instanteous. If the monster hits hard enough, you'll die while the heal is being cast. * Lag-deaths happen.

Seems to me that the best tip for a 1st-timer is to be courteous and use lotsa common sense which coincidentally enough is a good tip for veterans as well ;D

1.When hunting use your ctrl key to see whats up ahead 2. when in PvP use your ctrl key to find the monk class 3. if you havent been asked to call DONT! 4. if you have been asked to call use the CTRL+Mouse click to target Monks, Necros, Eles then Warriors in that order<I thinks thats right> but allways take out the monks first. 5. Be nice untill it's time to not be nice

Good Tips Samilia... Personally I find an effective Mesmer is my number two priority... but a cursing Necro can be just as bad.

Either shift-f12 or ctrl-f12 (forgot which) is good for finding hidden enemies as well

good tips, but you forgot to take out mesmars! Ctrl+Click to call targets in order of- Monk, Mesmar or Necro, Elementalist, Warrior or Ranger mesmars can be quite deadly, I would know

Alt keys shows all the NPC characters in the staging area
and the game will let you equip a weapon and shield even though you don't have the attributtes for it. They work at a reduced level. Learned that the hard way.
Buy the salvage kits, especially for long quests. Use them and upgrade your armor.
As a warrior, always have a bow cause sometimes you can't get there from here and can't help kill.
Also, don't let your health get too low before you run!
All things I learned.

when in a mission the alt button not only brings up party members names, but also the names of other items floating around. if you want to check out the stats of someone elses drop, hold the alt button and scroll over it. looking for a chest? alt button and turn a quick 360.

Is there a list somewhere of all the Ctrl+ Commands and the other function keys?
I never knew the f12 key was used for anything

either ctrl or shift with f12 puts you into (wireframe? don't know the linguo) mode and you get to see through all the terrain.

A great tip for beginners now- DON'T LEAVE OLD ASCALON FOR A WHILE!!! Oh, so true. I'm going to scrap my pre-sear Katyrian Dragonbane and start him over so I can see the rest of Old Ascalon. (What is north of those bloody charr?)

Do note: Old Ascalon is the name of an explorable area you can only get to after you've left pre-Searing Ascalon. The proper name for pre-Searing Ascalon, as per Gaile Gray, is the "Kingdom of Ascalon" or KoA for short. Old Ascalon is a part of the region of the game known as the "Ruins of Ascalon" or RoA...

Hi, I'm a fellow HeEt member who's just stumbled into this thread. - Press 'P' for the mini-map. This is useful for large PvE maps, as it avoids embarrassing situations where you discover that you have been walking in circles.
- Maintained enchantments are automatically cut off if you stray too far from the original caster (I believe the distance is something like disappearing from there radar).
- Do not split up. It's a basic strat, but it's important in GW because heal spells (just like every other spell) can only be cast so far. So if you stray too far from the main party, the team's healer may be forced to run back and forth just to heal everyone, increasing the overall healing downtime.

Press 'P' for the mini-map. This was changed to 'U' in the most recent BWE (although you can customize your settings and change it back if you like, or make it anything else for that matter).
