With the latest chapter release and all the extraordinary detail that went into the release, I came up with a person request for virgin territory and wondered what others thought:
The converse of this is true as well. When asked to journey with someone all gameplay comments will be withhed unless requested.
Of course if this is everyone's 3rd time through with different characters the request does not apply.
Thoughts?

I like it. A lot. This has happened to me a couple of times, when running with people who'd already done a quest/mission/whatever, and who were excited to get me to the next map point. Half of the fun in this game is discovering things for the first time, and being lead by the nose takes away that experience. Let us stub our toes, get deaded, whatever. It's no fun to read a book and have someone tell you what's on the next page before you get to it...

Personally, I don't mind learning from other peoples experience, but I typically go out with henchies and heros. Only rarely do I quest with Pugs. I actually enjoy questing with Guildies but rarely find enough people online to organize anything.
Regarding the Etiquette question, that's a good message if you find yourself in a group that has more experience than you and you want to find out for yourself. Honestly though, if someone said that to me I would consider letting them group with someone of less experience so they can learn it together as a shared experience.

When in an area someone has never been before that is interesting, I tend to let them make all the choices (sometimes with great agony as they run the wrong way..... again). However, when it comes to certain instances, such as people who only care about playing the next mission, or when trying to catch up to a group at the next map point, sometimes I'll take the lead to get them with other people.
In short I believe: Playing with People > One Person Exploring to Next Map Point However: Personal Experience/Exploratoin > Being Led.
So, it depends what people seem to want more- personal experience or playing with others

IMHO Guildies and Alliance people would not need such a disclaimer as most are aware and ask in group as to whether or not you have done this before. PUGS are ... well... pugs... rather like a box of chocolate........ ya neva know what ya gonna get Cheers

With the following caveat that instuctions shoudl be given to make sure a mission/quest is sucessful. Like do not attack that group or we will die.....

With the following caveat that instuctions shoudl be given to make sure a mission/quest is sucessful. Like do not attack that group or we will die..... Actually, I look fondly back on my first couples times questing with BGN as a new recruit. Even though I was (I think) the only one who had not done Villainy of Galrath or, later, Dunes of Despair. X and Inda made me lead so I would discover it for myself. (OK, maybe they were also trying to see if I knew how to play.) In fact, we FAILED Dunes the first time, probably because it was the first time I had done it and I messed something up. But they were super patient and helped me try again. So maybe the caveat has to be put out only when others in the group also need the same mission. But maybe when we go to "help" others we should sit back and let them learn on their own.

I guess I see it a little different. I mean we often go and look things up on Guild Wiki. I consider my Guild members another reference. Even though I don't want them telling me plot things, when doing a mission for the first time (especially a hard one that I probably won't get another chance at that night) I don't mind people who have done it taking the lead. I know I will probably get the chance to lead another time. There is plenty of stuff that I will get the chance, sometimes painfully, to learn for myself.
But if I'm helping and I start trying to help too much just tell me that you want to discover it for yourself.

I think the hard part is that the most fun I usually have in game is when I'm playing something through for the first time with other people who are doing it for the first time. Even reading about it on the wiki doesn't dampen the fun. Think about when they loaded Sorrows Furnace and we all met up to go see what it was all about. The first time someone got crushed in a crusher=HILARIOUS.
Obviously, that's a different situation from when some have and some haven't done the mission. I'm TERRIBLE about refraining from "helping." And BGN and alliance-mates are ALWAYS good about allowing time to read the dialogue and "smell the roses."
Because of this tension, tho, Nightpearl and I have agreed not to move on in the story without each other, so we can explore/discover things together. This means that Saturday I will be alone for the day and either running another character through newbie island or leveling my heroes up in tyria or cantha. If you see me shouting "anyone want to do Sanctum Cay" don't laugh. ;D
