www.stormbluffisle.com/index.php/forum/wvw/1304-wvw-tutorial-group-8-1-13-0300utc-gmt#12976"I will be in SBI BL (hopefully no queue) and will take all WvW beginners on map for a tutorial of WvW."
If you are interested just be there. I will announce on map chat when I'm gathering the group to start it."Yulo[SBI] is the person who will be hosting this. I used the time-zone converter here: www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc. If I used it correctly, that's 9PM CST MONDAY for those of us in the Americas. I encourage anyone with any interest in WvW to give it a try. We have a pretty good community going with good leadership, but we do need more players. WvW is, IMO, great fun once you figure it out and get build that can be effective. There are many different ways you can play and be a contributor to the "war effort" of Stormbluff Isle. You can run with big groups, small groups or even solo, and serve a purpose. At first it may seem intimidating and even frustrating, but those things are remedied through experience, and finding the proper build for your playstyle. If you ever have any questions about WvW, feel free to ask me, or to post them in the WvW section at stormbluffisle.com. There's also a Do's and Don'ts thread on that forum, and a good thread at the guildwars2.com forum on WvW basics.

Asya - glad to hear you will be there!
Xaja - the format is DD/MM/YY, instead of MM/DD/YY. AND, unless I am confused, it will be tonight (the 7th), since the advertised time was for 3AM GMT/UTC on the 8th.
Oh, and if anyone is wondering "SBI BL" is the Stormbluff Isle Borderlands map.

Thanks for attending, folks. I know for at least some of you there was little to nothing new learned, but hopefully it was fun and perhaps whetted your appetite a little more for WvW. I've been pretty impressed with some of the leadership from our server mates in WvW both in terms of skill and attitude.
I'm curious to know, what each of you think of WvW, how much you play, and what your playstyle is.
I typically play as a lone wolf, doing things like building siege, scouting, escorting and ganking yaks, taking and defending camps, keeping the quggan camps in the the lake on our side, etc. I'll respond to calls for help on both defensive and offensive efforts, and will usually spend at least some time running with havoc squads and zergs for badges and other loot. That being said, I'd be happy to run as a squad with you guys any time. If we have someone who wants to lead, that's great, but if not, I'm pretty sure we could get someone from one of the other guilds like SF to lead us.

Thanks for the heads up on this get-together, Sling. Yeah, I knew the basics of what Yulo covered, but I did pick up a couple of new details and tips. He was a good, patient instructor. A pleasant change from the ones who lambast your build or your playstyle. I enjoy WvW when there's a good commander on. I tend to stick with her or him as much as I can. I'm not proficient enough to be successful in one-on-one. Now that I know I earn WvW kills from NPCs that may change!

Eld, what map do you normally play on? I generally stay away from EB because of the frequent negative vibe in chat. Of course there will be some of that from time to time anywhere you go in co-op / pvp gaming, but it doesn't seem that bad on the BL maps, to me. Lately I've just been playing on the SBI BL map, since we normally don't have enough bodies to cover the two other BL maps, as well.
Following a good commander is always a solid choice, especially if you want lots of kills/loot. Running in smaller squads with no commander icon visible can be highly effective, too, and more competitive/cooperative feeling than zerging, IMO. Running solo is more dangerous and I didn't used to do it until I switched to more of a "bunker" build, and also really learned the maps. I still get killed by thieves, but can normally win or survive against other classes until either more allies or enemies show up.
For me what has kept WvW fun and interesting has been experiencing all three of those playstyles (solo, squad, zerg) and seeing the game from different perspectives. Some people only run with zergs, and then complain about it being boring, but there are a bunch of different things you can do besides zerging. Even building well-placed siege can be a rewarding activity, when you see that those 2 or 3 weapons you built with help from no one else turn the tide of a battle that hits 2 hours later.
Over at the stormbluffisle.com forum Jedbacca and Vihar have already volunteered to lead BGN (and LOV if I can get any takers) for some squad action, so hopefully we can get a group together soon and make that happen.

I was there for the turorial and I brought a Warrior. The other times I had an Ele. I liked the wa better as she is not as squishy and can chase people down. I need 45 more kills in WvW so I plan to play some this weekend. Also I need some Fractals so if you are soing either and see me online, give me a holler.
It was fun to have 8 or so BGN running around WvW as part of a Zerg. Kind of like the old days.....

Sling, I play SBI BL mostly, but I occasionally pop into EB and the green BL map to see if I have any chance to grab the last few places for world map completion. (Been at 99% for a month.)

I had a lot of fun, I really would like to get into some WvW, I mostly play RA these days, so some more coordinated play would be interesting. I don't usually have a problem with 1v1 on my Ranger, 'cause I just run away if I start losing ;P. But I would certainly like to get more into cooperative play and I do like the idea of small squads, which, when we all get the hang of it is something I think BGN could do quite often.
