Have not watched it yet - so this is as far as I'm reading this thread until afterwards.

Eld missed it last night too. So for Roxy and Eld we must avoid spoilers.
That said: FABULOUS. Am SO curious about the thing that Eko encountered in the jungle!
The teasers for next week look good too.

Well I thought the love scene between Echo and Charlie was a bit over-done, but... I can't believe you told them what the "thing" Eko encountered in the jungle was. Damn you X! But you're right, I mean candles?! Who has CANDLES on a jungle island!

Downloaded the episode today ( won't be televised here for another month or so), it was pretty good, though the nigerian connection between the airplane and mr Eko has been obvious for a long time. Still is the best TV show right now.

*SPOILER?*
But, the real question is how the hell a plane that small gets to somewhere over the ocean (Presumbly the Pacific, but I'm not convinced they are not in the Indian Ocean...)

I'm caught up now. Was a good, but not a great episode in my mind.
SPOILER
Now that I've really had a looksee at the monster, I'm a bit unimpressed. Of course, I always suspected that it was not really a monster at all. A love scene between Eko and Charlie would have made the ep into a classic.

SPOILER
Some kind soul fills out summaries and info from the episodes on Wikipedia (search 'Lost'). It said there that the black thingy was flashing with images of Eko's past, snapshots of what we'd seen in the flashbacks. Makes sense given the redemption theme all through the show. I'm hoping it'll show when I watch on videotape this weekend, but somehow I doubt it.
I'm actually kind of glad the monster isn't another polar bear or t-rex or whatever. Adds a neat dimension. Those that have run/hid from it are running/hiding from their past, unwilling to confront what they've done or had done to them. Perhaps those that it killed (ie the pilot) couldn't come to terms or judged THEMSELVES wanting.
The thing that's been bugging me----WHERE THE HECK IS DESMOND?! He ran away into the jungle, but c'mon, they're on an ISLAND! Where's he hiding and when is he going to come back?!

Yes there are images in the smoke/monster. As the total geek I am, I watched the scene frame by frame. Most of the images is only 1-2 frames long, so they are very hard to see otherwise.
I thought the polar bear was cool, since it was in Walt's comic book. That boy maybe has too much imagination...

*****Part Spoiler, Part Theory******
In a forum that Inda recommended in one of these threads somewhere, they have posted the images from the Eko/smoke encounter frame by frame, and you can see images of the church, of his brother, of the virgin Mary statues, and of the man that Eko shot to save his brother's soul. I'm thinking that the Others are controlling the smoke and that it acts as jury and executioner once it 'reads' a person's heart of hearts. Obviously, Eko was deemed worthy of continued life. When Ana Lucia was eating the apple with that guy who turned out to be an Other (can't remember his name), he told her that Nathan was killed because he was a bad person. Someone has set themselves up as god(s) on our little island.

*** More Spoiler *** One theory is that the smoke is actually nano-bots. Read Prey by Michael Crichton for some interesting backstory.

I'm so glad that no "thing" was encountered. A good ep, not great. (Finally saw it tonight.) X, one theory I've heard to explain how a Nigerian plane ends up on a presumably Pacific island is that somehow the island moves. Physically, magically, who knows. I thought Claire was a little hard on Charlie. She didn't give him any chance to explain. Of course, her instincts may be right, given what he has squirreled away in the jungle. Favorite line: "What are you gonna do? Beat me with your Jesus stick?"

tee hee that was a great line.
Although I am waiting to see who knocked the shite out of Locke in next weeks episode....just don't trust that creepy guy -- plus come on the name John Locke... philosopher of the social contract -- and the John Locke in the show no way complys with a social contract -- in fact if anything Jack is the true John Locke of the island...
woah..too many philosophy classes..

***Wild A$$ Speculation***
My theory, if there actually is some weird electro-magnet on the Island, is that the 'others' (and there are different factions of them btw, one for each would-be station) fired a weapon at Flight 811, and that's what bought the plane down in 2-3 pieces with so many survivors... If they are really still alive at all that is...

Hurley is the coolest, for so many great lines, including, "Dude, you've got Arzt on you." Best ep overall so far, imho, was the one where we learned Locke used to be in a wheelchair. That was one of the best reveals in TV history. That ep was written by David Fury, a Buffy/Angel alumnus, who is writing for the new season of 24. Now THAT is gonna rock! Sorry, topic drift...

Didn't realize that about the writing team, Eld. It gives me hope that if for some godforsaken reason Locke is killed off on Lost, Terry O'Quinn will show up on 24, which as you properly note---->Rox! Back OT - Can't wait for Wednesday's new ep. I took a 'which character are you on Lost' quiz and found out that I am most like Kate. I had to take a tiebreaker question though. I was also very close to being like Jack. (In truth, I have a feeling that if there was a 'character who runs around screaming and panicking like a complete wuss for 50 days' answer I would have got that one )If anyone wants me to post the link here, let me know, but I figure most Lost fans have already found quizzes like this.
