Well guys if you haven't noticed my sudden disapearence ::)I have been grounded per se from guild wars and the internet , this could last weeks or months so if I pop up one day you'll know. Know second part of this thread is that my mom wants me to play on my laptop and it isn't fast enough which I believe is related to connection speed due to the wireless connection(54.0 mbps). But this may not be the problem any thoughts on making my laptop run at a guild friendly speed would help ;D

well soaring I can't speak to the speed thing--I will let wiser tech minds discuss that--but as far as the grounding thing -- WHA!?!? If your mom happens to read this I would be happy to work out a punishment in the pub for you instead...you know cleaning Tru Kitty's litter box, taking Inu for a walk, or even feeding Morbs---although that last one you may lose a finger or two. Long story short don't worry soaring--we'll keep your guild spot warm until you are able to get back in your parent's good graces

Soaring, when you have the chance (as in don't further your punishment), please post the specs of your laptop as this will help determine if the problem is the wireless connection (shouldn't be the problem as GW can be played on dial-up), processor, memory, or video card...

Soaring, you'd better not be reading this unless you're de-grounded! Don't want you to get in any more trouble with your parents. And as for cleaning Tru Kitty's litter box - I don't think I can ask you to take that one on. You can only imagine the stuff I find in there: Charr hairballs, Not-quite-jade-anymore-mandibles, etc. Dark remains, indeed.

What the hell did you do anyway? Awww your mom wants you to play on your laptop...damn, I never had a laptop when I was your age. If your mom happens to read this I would be happy to work out a punishment in the pub for you instead...you know cleaning Tru Kitty's litter box, taking Inu for a walk, or even feeding Morbs---although that last one you may lose a finger or two. Screw that he's gone...he reminds me of Ike (Kyles little brother in South Park)..."Kick the baby"... Kyle: "Ready, Ike? Kick the baby!" Ike: "Don't kick the baby." Kyle: "Kick the baby!"

My laptop plays fine on wireless 54 mb. I find that I have to turn down the graphics as low as possible in game. Setting the desktop to 16 bit color as well as tweaking the other Open GL settiongs to performance seemed to help.

Well my dad let me post this thread so its not a violation of my punishment
My laptop specs are Intel(R)celeron(R)2.80GHz 448 mbs of ram ati radeon 7000 igp 64mb vram also I checked the divx video codec and it was 5.2.1 and I believe it was the 7.0 codec or 9.0 so that might be a problem
btw its a Toshiba laptop
and referring to what fate said this video card was already installed and I can't find a setting page or anything like that but I can but the graphics down.

How do you get 448 ram a 256, a 128 and a 64? Wow.
Anyway I don't think you are going to have much luck with a Radeon 7000. The Guild Wars box states a Radeon 9000 as minimum reqiuirements. However, if you upgrade the drivers you might just get a tab for the video card when you hit the advanced butting on settings screen (right click on desktop, select properties, select settings screen).
Since it is a laptop, upgrading the video card is out. Hmm. Hopefully some other option will work. I have found that flowers and chocolates with a sincere apology work well not only on wives but on mothers. The sincere part is always the hard part though.

thanks fate I updated the driver and after that I set it to 16 bit and set open GL to performance all the way. I'll test it as soon as possible. ;D

Guild Wars also says it does not Support GeForce FX 5200 (as battlefield 2 does not) but it runs almost perfect on my system. What settings is your NIC running from? (Network Interface Card) Also whats the speed of the reciver and is there anything such as T10 or T1 along the line in the network, be it a wire or wireless part. Also what make is the Nic/Reciver/Router etc...

1.what do you mean by running from 2.the speed is 54.0 mbs on a standard broadband connection (time warner), don't know what T1 or T10 is 3. the make is time warner (I looked on router and it had a sticker that said cl or cable lbls or somthin)
So I can't give you a full answer.

My Guild War box actually lists Geforce3 or 4 Ti as the minimum and radeon 8500. So I was looking at the wrong one.
Tal is right. You never know if it will work unitl you try.

What I meant is, do you have a home network running? If so does all the computer plug into the broadband reciver? If not what do they plug into? Also what I mean is, is your Internet settings set to a static IP? Dynamic IP? A certain phone number to dial out to? etc...
For example, I have this computer set to a dynamic ip (changes everytime i make a new net connection), it always dials out to 0,38 (Standard British broadband number which then links to every isp here. might be the same in the us too?) and it goes through my router to my DSL modem. my router has 5 other pcs and 2 laptops attached to it with cat5e network cables. That may seem like a load of jargon but it simply names of things.
Have a look and let me know. It sounds like a network problem and not hardware per say.

How do you get 448 ram a 256, a 128 and a 64? Wow. Actually, VRAM on a laptop frequently subtracts from the main RAM. The laptop in question likely has two 256MB or one 512MB module in it; thus with 64MB of "VRAM", it has 448MB left over for non-video purposes. It is very unlikely your connection speed has anything to do with Guild Wars running slowly. Even the slowest wireless cards (11 Mbps) are an order of magnitude faster than broadband Internet speeds. If you're having network issues, the game should run just as fast as normal, but you'll have problems with lag and/or Err=7 disconnects. If the game itself runs slowly, it's most likely due to a poor video card/chipset, or excessive amounts of other software or spyware infesting the system. Incidently, if you add "-perf display fps" to the startup parameters for Guild Wars (just get the properties of the shortcut you use to launch it, and add that to the end of the "Target"), it will give you some statistics on your performance, both network and video. Network issues will have no effect at all on your FPS, so if your FPS is low, it's certainly not a network issue.

Does "-perf" stand for something cause when I put it in it says perf is invalid

Make sure you put it in outside the quotes. For example, this is the Target field in my Guild Wars shortcut:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -perf display fps

All you can really do is set everything to lowest on the advanced settings in options and hope for the best. After all, thats all I can do with this piece of junk machine *hits pc*. Now not only is my sound card broken, but my video card is beginning to waver- hurrah! Every so often I get blue-screen-o-death which says a video card dll is faulty. Fortunately come october I SHOULD have saved enough money from work to afford a beauty of a pc.
*cough* so lesson here is to get a job and save up enough money to buy an uber laptop...that or grovel, grovel, and grovel some more to your parents.

gosh if I could get a job that'd be awsome but I have to stick to mowing lawns as a source of income (sighs). But by the time I can get a job I'll want a car, gas, etc. So when some of you are in your 50-60s [glow=gold,10,000]( 90's)[/glow]I'll have a real job .

So when some of you are in your 50-60s [glow=gold,10,000]( 90's)[/glow]I'll have a real job . You think so huh? Well consider this--I started driving truck for my family agriculture business at the ripe old age of 7. So by my calculations you are way behind on your work. Also, I know how much money can be made mowing yards (a butt load)--up the price you charge a little and sneak in at night and water them so they grow faster.

Perhaps he lives in a town like mine. All the lawn care services run a monopoly, they're almost like the mafia. They're the only ones that do anything. Everytime I'm out cutting the grass, they give me the bird!
Or, his town might be very strict about 'child labour laws' (*cough* useless anyway because most kids want to work in the countries that have those laws*cough*), only 1 place in our town hires under 16 age (almost said 'under lvl 16'), and they filled up fast.

Yah I live in a big city alot of people have lawn service neighbors, neighborhood etc. I think our arlans take 14 year olds but I'm guessing It dosen't matter because my dad has a powerwasher and most services don't do that unless asked so I have a advantage (plus its not hard cause you get wet). And as for programs I can turn off there was one and I turned it off.

'Tis a vicious circle: 1. Need to get hardware/software to play video games all day. 2. Need to work to buy hardware/software. 3. Need to go to school to get a job. 4. Need to stop playing video games to go to school.
Back on topic, sounds like you are out of luck on the laptop.
