Being the inquisitive type (not to be confused with the Spanish Inquisition) ~ I was hoping to hear stories as to how each of you became a member of BGN. Some of you I asked myself -- but I thought it might be interesting to hear about your arrival to BGN in your own words. There are a lot of guilds in GW...and some of them claim to similar to ours--so, Why BGN? This thread can also be used as a shameless tool to recruit other people to the guild. So don't be afraid to be creative.

Why BGN? A question to which there is a simple answer, friendship. By now you have probably read my post on the formation of the BGN; however, I did take literary license when writing it. The BGN was already formed, and there were a number of members on its roster. Many of which have never appeared again, probably because they didn't pre-order. Maybe they will show up in February.
Anyway, I digress. I quested around going from party to party never really feeling any "belonging". The quest parties would quest and never say a word during the mission. I'd try to strike up a conversation, and the crickets would chirp their legs. Then I just happen to luck into X and Inda. We struck up a conversation about girl things, like hair, clothes, and the slaughter of unholy Charr. There was never any hounding on each other if one of us died, or had to BRB. Everyone was extremely encouraging and took interest how I felt about the game.
At the end of the quests with BGN, it wasn't the usual "gg, l8r" blip party gone. It was more like, "That was great! I thought we almost saved the prince that time. Try again?" "Sure, let's strip down and recurite another warrior!"
So Inda extended an invitation to join the guild. I thought what the heck, its just beta anyway and if things don't work out I'll just move on. Then we ran into Yoko! When we all died, except Yoko, trying to save the prince, we stayed in the game for over 15 minutes watching Yoko run around and take on the remaining Charr by herself. It was amazing. I wish I had a tape of that game. Most people would have given up and restarted, but not us. And thankful we were. I've only completed that quest one other time.
When Yoko accepted the invitation to join I knew that I had selected wisely in my guild choice.
It is amazing to watch this Animal House grow with Yoko, aka Eric Stratton, run around with the independents and find great members such as the ones on this forum. "Hi, I'm Yoko Nishi. Rush chairman, damn glad to meet you."
This guild concentrates on cooperative and not competitive play. If someone needs help with a mission, we're all there to help the neophyte. Even if we have already played that mission a dozen times we'll play it again; because it is the human interaction that matters, and not some arbitrary goal like being number one on the guild ladder (but hey we'll take a top 10 spot!).
If someone wants to strike out on her own and explore some area by herself, that is perfectly alright! We all don't have to be Borg and run around as collective all the time.
So, if you read this and are looking for some friends that you can hop online with and help grow your character or yourself, please feel free to join us. After all, our only "rule" is to have fun.

blah blah blah, *insert long message here* (comment on something not related). or at least thats how it usually goes when i join groups (other games).
however, my story for BGN is different, far different.
As usual, the silly monk is looking around for a group to walk to LA all the way from the Alpine staging ground. After, oh, six unsucessful tries, AD decides to ask the common public for a group to join.
"Monk Primary looking for group to go to Lions Arch," I call.
To which a simple phrase from one, Asya Mordina, replies "We'll take you. Stay there Ill come get you" (mind you, I find her running into a table full of food and trapped amidst it all).
So I join this group of people. As with most groups of people, I'm gearing up for the mission and just waiting for the launch. Once in, there's the usual questions- whose leading, who knows the way (blah!). Over the course of this mission the group finds a city i never knew existed in the hills, a beautiful mountaintop view, and humourous friendly banter. As a matter of fact, this is the first group whose talked more than neccissary, not to mention being funny.
As a result of the chatting between four people (whom I did not realize were in the same guild), Xalran, Asya, Yoko, and Nya I for the first time truly enjoy an MMO game. This is one opportunity I would not want to pass up. A group of friendly, communicative people.
As a closing note on the group of amazing people I journied with, I'd like to bring light to one fact. Even though they were all about 5 levels higher than me, not one complained when I struggled as a new monk, not one complained when I got lost, or died, not one complained about having to play a mission he/she has already beaten, not one complained about helping out. All of them scorned those who tried to rip off newbies and cheat the unknowing of hard earned items. If any group claims to be like this, I know it to be not true. It's nearly impossible for it to be true. There might never be another group of responsible, enjoyable, and carefree gamers as this.

Some of you may ask how did I get into BGN? Was it because I saw the guild banner or what is because someone told me about it? Well I will tell you how I got into BGN.
I was doing the 3rd mission from Ascalon the 1st beta event in november. I did a mission with 3 other people, 2 of them I didn't know and the other person...Yoko. We beat the mission.
Later I was on the mission before the alpine place. I got 3 more people to do the mission with me, 2 of them I didn't know and the third somehow was Yoko.
So then after the mission I asked her what her guild name was. Knowing I was part of the worst guild with only 2 other members...I decided to leave my guild.
I asked Yoko if I could join her guild. She said yes if she could find Philia. And now I was where I am now. Thank you Yoko. ;D

I would also like to add what Ascalon said no matter what happened if they had beaten the mission they hated they would come back and get me to beat the mission...They even came back after my game crashed 3 times...which is what is so great about this guild...no one gets left behind.

In the very first event (world premiere), I was running around trying to figure out this game. As Luna Dove, the monk, I was able to get into a few groups to do the missions around Lion's Arch (we started at level 15). A few groups were quiet, just getting the mission done with hardly any talking and then "ok, cya later" after the mission was ended. More importantly, a lot of the groups I was with were acting like these missions were more of a race to get to the end. For a healer type, this is bad. I use all the power I have (remember, these were gimped characters starting at 15 with crummy skills and armor), then they are racing off to find the next battle and I have not even regenerated my power. Some even started the next battle with half health, not waiting for the rest of the group! Then complained when they died. Then I joined a group with Inda as the leader. At that time I was not sure who else was in the group, but Inda led us through the mission with great success. After training and selling items, I was clicking around on the screen and notices an invite from Biblia Indagatrix. I was not sure when I even received this invite, but I thought I would join and give this guild a chance. I could always quit later. Then I started getting into groups with the guild and it became apparent that this guild was into helping people and having a good time. I was ecstatic to find out that any character I create was automatically in the guild. So, unless they vote me out, I am here to stay

I actually didn't have a guild name in mind, so it's just as well... let me think... I probably would have gone with something from one of Clive Barker's novels perhaps, to go with the Cenobyte inspired Necro...

Well my story for joining this guild is unlike any of the others so far. In the world premiere I never even met any of the people from this guild. In fact I joined a completely different guild, who I did enjoy being with. However on the last day of the Beta weekend a bombshell was dropped... the leader was not going to get guild wars. I expected us to elect a new person as leader, but instead everyone just left and went their own ways.
So, there I was, wanting to play the game but with not enough money to preorder. I decided it would be best if I found a guild to join before I got the game, and so I started my romp around the internet looking for guilds.
On the guild wars official forums I found an advert for BGN, after a few hours of looking at bogstandard guilds who were only interested in becoming "1337 d00d5". When I visited the site I saw that they were a bunch of friendly people, and I loved their attitude, and so I signed up in order to check out the forums.
Now this being me, I completely forgot to go back to the forums and check it out, until I next checked my email a couple of weeks later (yeah i dont check my email too often) and found a very nice email welcoming me, which I could tell was not a bot scripted one. I then went back to these forums and signed up proper, introducing myself to the rest... and then I added the site to my favourites bar so i wouldnt forget it again.
I'm still waiting to be able to play with them, but from the comments I've heard about them it will be a great deal of fun once I do.

Hi, just hopped over from the thread going on in the guild-hall.net while looking for a guild to play the jan beta weekend with. During the dec beta weekend I kept forming teams for the cooperative missions, and let me tell you it's very much a hit and miss affair forming teams with strangers. Even if by chance I manage to get together a good team, at the drop of a hat they will be all gone by the time the next mission comes up. And then the team forming process restarts anew for another mission. You guys seem to have great attitude, and I loved your stories on joining the BGN. 'Fun' is also the only rule that makes sense in a game Can I join the guild? I'm a team player, and would very much like a close-knit friendly environment to game with. My current character name is Iostream Blue. Email: throwaway00 at fastmail.fm

I was invited to look over the BGN site by Indagatrix and my fiance and I were intrigued by the notion of friendship and that there were other couples who were members. While we have not been in any of the beta events, we have watched the forum with regular interest. (Not posting due to a bit of confusion as to my password ). Reading these other posts, I know we made the right decision and I hope to play with many of you in February.

Whether it was made explicit in my head or not, I was looking for a guild that would be laid back and into having fun, and also a guild that was lead by a female.
Which is to say: I wanted a guild that didn't have a lot of macho crap, power hungry hierarchies, or serious players demanding or draining my time.
I looked at a lot of guilds. Went to their websites and tried to learn a little about them. I looked again.
Finally, I found the Beguine Guild forum here. There wasn't much here at that time, but by reading the posts in each thread, I got the sense that this would be the right guild for me. I forget the chain of events, but I was quickly embraced within the guild and made to feel part of a team.
I was never into guilds when I played EQ, but I am glad I am in one now and that it has been such a great experience. I hope to play with all of you!

Thanks for the bump, Inda. I'd totally missed this thread... No long essay here. I picked BGN because it matched my expectations in a guild: keep it fun. I admire the expertise of the players who can find the perfect balance of skills to get that extra edge in GvG or PvP, but that's not what gaming (any gaming) is about for me. I play because I want to enjoy good times with friends, and that's what I get from BGN. And just because BGN happens to be the first guild I looked at (thank you, Asya) does not detract from what I said above. It just proves my good taste.

Well I could go on and wax poetic about how lovely people the members can be or how gut-wrenching hilarious are some of the things I've seen/heard or how gentle and compassionate the ladies are or how I can strike a match off Morbs gritty demeanor. But I won't. What does it for me is how down-to-earth y'all are. There's no pretense here ... well to a point cause we are mostly fantasizing in the GW world ... but I think you know what I mean. We keep things real with each other with support and camaraderie ... and that to me is what makes BGN pretty darn cool in my books.
