Ok, so I'm installing an opensource catalog system ( obiblio.sourceforge.net/) for a library I help at (not my full-time job but a very small specialized library)... I bought the library a domain and web hosting package from godaddy and I am trying to install this damn catalog now...but I keep getting the same error when I try to run the install/index.php And then it's very polite and asks me if I've done the other steps in the process. I'm really not familiar with installing something of this level and I'm afraid I'm in over my head. If there's a kind soul out there that would be willing to help me I would oh so appreciate it.

Did you perform a step somewhere (whether by manual edit or when prompted by the install script) to provide the MySQL server name, port, user id, and password? If not, it's likely that the install script doesn't have the information it needs to find and connect to the database.
Also, is your browser pointing to a copy of install.php that exists locally on your machine or to the copy installed on the web site? It must be the latter for everything to work properly.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: And make sure you've set up a user ID and password for the MySQL server (using the mysqladmin page), and that the user ID has been given the proper permissions to create read, update, and delete. (aka, the standard CRUD permissions.)
