I am currently reading Winds of the Khazars. It's historical fiction (which I greatly enjoy)--kind of along the lines of Edward Rutherfurd and James Michener . I was attracted to the title because not too horrible much (fiction or otherwise) is written on the Khazars (a real group of people who lived) and I did some research on them once for a class. I'll let you all know how it turns out. *edited several times to try to get the dang amazon links to work.

Finished Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt. This book takes a look at modern day events and attempts to present interesting causes. For example, what do Roe v Wade and the drop in crime in '94 have in common, or how is a crack gang like McDonalds, or does a person's name affect other's perceptions later in life.
The book is a quick read. Thankfully, the book has few statistics so as to not bore the general reader. Suggested audience, post college.

Just have to share--one of the things I love about being a librarian is buying books for others to read. Why? 1) Because I get to spend other peoples money (ex: I just sent in an order for $1,690 worth of books!!!) 2) I get all warm and fuzzy when people say how much they enjoyed reading a book I purchased/recommended for them to read.
Ok, enough silliness gotta get ready for X's fam reunion.

I like Sci-fi a lot. The last books I've been reading are by Alastair Reynolds, currently reading 'Absolution Gap' and I already have the sequel 'Century Rain' in my book shelf Other favorite authors are Greg Bear especially 'Eon' & 'Eternity'.Wilbur smith with his wonderful books about Africa and Clive Cussler with the exciting adventures of Dirk Pitt

"Choose between the death of a young schoolteacher or an elderly humanitarian in six hours," read the note attached to Billy "Bar Keeps" Wyles windshield wiper. Follow Billy as he must make fatal choices in an attempt to find out who is responsible for the murders. Dean Koontz takes the reader again on a fast paced murder/mystery in Velocity.

lol.. Asya at first I thought you were talking about a Choose your own adventure book. I didn't think Dean Koontz wrote any of those but after reading it a second time it makes much more sense.

Woot! Harry Potter 6 arrived on my doorstep at 10am. To show how much of a Harry Potter geek I am I'd finished it by 6.30pm. I'm not sure if HP is quite the same phenomenon it is in England over the pond, but the latest installment is absoloutley fantastic, one of my favourites so far in the series, and thank Jeebus its smaller than the last one, only 600 pages rather than the last one which was the same size as all three LOTR books put together.
Rating A******* <-yup, that good.

I'm not sure if HP is quite the same phenomenon it is in England over the pond. Well my sister went to a Harry Potter party last night at borders at 9am and then got the book at 12am opening day in the US...so it's definately popular over here as well to have stores throwing HP parties Way to go Hairy Pothead!

Me and my wife just picked ours up at Sam's. I'm guessing I will have to wait since she started reading it. Interesting thing I noticed on CNN that the UK one has a different cover than the US one. And seems to be a different size. Must be all those extra u's in color.

I might get it soon, not sure. #5 was a big dissappointment to me (why'd they kill off my favorite character!!!), and I'm strapped for cash, grr.

I know what you mean about killing of a favorite character. But I thought the last one was the best followed by Prisoner of Azkaban. I also understand strapped for cash. I wonder what the wait is as the library. Did anyone catch Conan O'Brian the other night. His monologue "There are a lot of adults having parties for the coming out of the new Harry Potter book, even the Starwars fans are saying how pathetic." Hmm a double insult to me.

I've seen the discussion on a few library listservs--most the large city library systems have ordered 200-600 (or more) copies of the latest HP for their systems. So if you live in a large city you may have good luck.

I now am having to physically restrain myself from typing any spoilers, or in fact any words which may hint to anything spiler-like. Im keeping tight lipped. But read it, it's probably my favourite so far, especially with all the teenage love goin on now they have reached that age. (though to be honest it should have happened a few books earlier. I mean come on, waht kind of kids sex drive doesnt start till they are in 6th form? adn yet every kid in the book has decided to wait until Harry, Ron and Hermione have hit 16 to do anything) Aaaaanywho, get reading folks. If anyone beats my time of 7hours 20 minutes to read it Ill owe them a beer

I picked up a copy of the new Harry Potter (or as Morbs likes, Hairy Pothead) at the local conglomeratemart...I mean Walmart, it was only $15, compared to the cover price of $30. They had like a billion of them in the front of the store, I'll time me reading it tomorrow, too tired to read today.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't started yet. My fiance ordered it for me from Amazon, but had it delivered to his OFFICE, so I won't get it until tonight. I saw at least 3 people on the train this AM who had to be in the last chapter or so. I'm glad to see (and hear) that this one is as addictive as the rest.
Am so excited to start reading tonight!
Thanks for not posting any (real) spoilers!!!
Perhaps I will time myself. Look out boys, I'm a fast reader.
