So Guild Wars 2 has been out for four days now, I was wonder what all of your first impressions were? Personally I'm a bit thrown off by the change in level cap actually, but I'm having lots of fun

Pro's * The dynamic events are very fun. Especially the ones that are chained. * The amount of thought put into the game like the way characters shift their weight when on a hill. * The jumping puzzle in Lion's Arch! Super fun. Crappy reward, but so much fun. * The diving board in LA. * COOKING!
But all of these great things are marred by the basic technical defects in the game. * Party system * Overflow system * Trade system * Guild system * Lack of alliances * Login server * Dedicated servers * WvWvW queue time * No authenticator
Non-technical con's: * The cut scenes are not immersive. * Too much grinding between storyline missions in order to level up. Makes the storyline seem more like a side-quest.

Excellent breakdown, Asya. I admit that I am having a lot of fun, so far. I look at this as a hobby, and I want to get hooked. Emotionally, this game did not grab me the way GWs 1 did, but that may be due in large part to me being relatively new to MMOs, and GWs 1 blew me away. I had high hopes that GWs 2 would, but since it hasn't, so far, I'll still hold out hope that it will keep me interested for the next 7 years or more. I mentioned on another page that the game kicked me out of the guild, so please get me another invite. It may have something to do with me getting the discs from GameSpot and downloading....I'm glad they didn't wipe out my characters and start me over.

I must say I quite agree with Asya, especially when it comes to leveling between your storyline quests. However I believe that given time all of the technical cons will be worked out, but until then they will be insanely frustrating.

I don't mind the technical aspects, it's set up like a real MMO would be and has to be thanks to the player base and WvWvW. It's annoying now because it's new, but it'll die down and things will work more smoothly. The bugs in game with trading, guilds n'at will hopefully be fixed soon too.
I just ignore the story, it's just another quest. It's not particularly good, and yeah, the dialogue bits are really hamfisted. I wouldn't except it to be though, I don't really think of MMOs as having a good story. It's just like TOR, for all their boasts about the story being a pillar of gameplay, I was not impressed.
I love the environments and just exploring. GW1 got so stale because it was mostly missions til 20, then more missions and some pvp. Now I can pvp anytime, level up anyway I want and not be gimping myself. I'm curious what end game there is aside from the pvp, but I'm not in a huge rush to get to it.

Well, the time I have played and stayed connected it is fun. As Angel said tis hard to chat or do anything with so many dc's, hopefully that will sort itself out sooner rather than later. As Yoko said the bugs have to be worked out. I posted info from Mike O'Brien on the other thread. I think this game has the potential of GW original, it will just take some time to get movement down, party groups, and all the other fun things that make MMO's a blast. See you in game.

I've been playing for almost a week now, and my experience has been pretty good. I'm more of a casual player than some of you, I know, so I always try to take that into consideration when I'm thinking about the game. I have really been enjoying exploring and crafting, and sometimes the events have been fun, though lately they have been major zergfests. That's okay, I guess, but it's hard to know how much you are contributing and it doesn't allow much room for strategy. Consequently, GW2 feels a lot like a single player game so far. Perhaps once I level some more and get to the dungeons I'll be able to party up and I'll get the teamwork that I'm craving. I ran into a situation last night where I was unable to advance in my personal storyline because I kept getting killed. That's fine, but I'm unsure whether I am supposed to recruit people to help me get past that point or whether I am just supposed to level my char to the point where I can take out the enemy solo. I did try to get into WvW the other evening, but the Q time was taking forever so I bailed. I'm looking forward to seeing what that's all about though I have never been the greatest PvP player. All of that said, I think that GW2 is beautiful and huge, and I continue to enjoy discovering places and npcs.

I agree with you Roxy, I like that it lets you solo, since your friends aren't always on, but I wish it was more of a group game. However, I know that the last couple of personal storyline missions I did were very difficult... definitely could have used help there! Hopefully we'll start doing dungeons and stuff too.

I like how you can bring your party members in with you in your personal story. I would say they sure can help ya. So far there has been pretty much to keep me busy. But I feel like something else must be coming. Besides mention of fighting dragons, I don't feel pulled in like there is some force that I'm suppose to be against besided centaurs and outlaws. Hopefully that will come. As Asya said the cut sceens are pretty simplistic but some of the dialogue has been very entertaining like last night the Char pretending to be a pirate. Arrrg! However my biggest complaint is the overflow. What were they thinking? I'm surethey have a reason. Oh yea. Anet hates us.

I'm like Roxy--more of a casual player (despite sometimes long hours in-game!), and I love the craftsmanship in the world, but there are a few things that irk me. I'm NOT a fan of this weird skills-tied-to-weapons for my necro. It just feels like I'm a tank with a few spells pretending to be a necro vs a 'real' necro. One thing that also really irks me is that I can't point-and-click with the mouse to travel (like in GW1 where you could click a point on the terrain and your char would run there--that was my main mode of non-combat moving). I think they've overly-complicated things like crafting and this store thing. I think people belonging to multiple guilds is weird and crazy. Not sure what I think of this 'effective level' thing, either. I haven't even been in a party and am not even sure how to do that in this game (although I generally don't like partnering up with rando scrubs, but I always like guild party action!).

Hello all! Been quite some time, Yes I have GW2 and I like it. I agree with ASYA about most everything, but I am hoping they get the bugs worked out. I am trying to transfer to Stormbluff Isle, but it just sits there and does not do it, going to let it go all night and see what happens. I tried to log into GW1 and see if anyone was on to tell me where you all went, but to no avail. It does not say in the guild message either. I found the guild listing and looked through it to find Beguine, and found this site too.
