A new class has been confirmed by Gale Grey and the concept art looks awesome. There is no information on the exact abilities of the assassin but if the narrative is based on the actual abilities of the class then we can expect duel wielding and throwing daggers. Stealth is a big must, but how they'll implement it so it works in both PvE and PvP is anyones guess. (please do!) A stealth class is exactly what I wanted, kudos arenanet.

hmmm assassin huh -- maybe GW is secretly Diablo 3 after all. Remember what the new class was for Diablo 2? -- Assassin. Not that I'm complaining...it's the other class I can actually play as well.

Looks pretty awesome ;D I'm actually a huge Diablo fan, so you can imagine that an Assassin class is something I've indulged in (and enjoyed, for that matter). I only hope that there are more than just this one new profession; there needs to be balance with the new classes so that we don't all end up in a group of 8 with all Assassins

Hmm, I may have to revive my old gaming handle for this one...

this does bring up the question though...do we get another character slot? Oh, I hope so...I don't know who I would delete....

It's worth noting that Gale said that we'll be getting new "professions," and not "profession." Meaning that, if they don't allow us more slots, we may be faced with the prospect of deleting two characters.
That said, I think it's extremely likely that they'll provide us with more slots. Not only that, but I think that they may finally make PvP rolling easier for us all. Here's hoping.

I can't wait to make a Assassin/Ranger...
Traps, stealth and dual wield... sounds like fun to me.

Please, yes, in the name of all that's holy, make rolling easier. I'm hoping for a build import feature, so we can plug in new PvP builds in a matter of seconds. It can't be that hard...
And, yes, at least two more slots.
And, yes, this topic has drifted a bit to leeward...

Nah - I'll come up with something better than that...

I'm curious to see how they implement stealth. If you can't Tab to the unit, it breaks the mechanics of the gameplay. And on the flip side, stealth is blown if you can tab to the unit.
For guild battles, the halls with the hard doors would be the way to prevent GL ganking by stealth assassins. "Hey look! It is the guild thief. She's walking all the way to our door by herself. How interesting. Must be a bug or something..." <Your Base Is Under Attack>
Let's think about the counter spells for stealth: Throw Flour (5, 1/4, 15) (Spell) Stealth foes around you become visible. Detected players leave little white footprints.
Preditory Vision (15, 2, 30) (Spirit) Creates a level [1..20] spirit. For the next [15..60] seconds stealth foes are detectible.
Sonar Smackdown (20, 3, 5) (Spell) All stealth units in target area receive [65...120] damage, and become visible. This spell causes exhaustion.
Kerrigan's Conundrum (10, 2, 10) (Hex) For [3..15] seconds, stealth units in target area receive health degeneration of -5. This hex ends if the unit becomes visible.
ICU -1 (5, 1, 5) (Enchantment) While maintaining this enchantment, target ally can detect sealth units.
"Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are!" (5, 1/4, 30) (Shout) All nearby stealth units become visible and move 50% slower.

Hmm...if is this true, than I amy just have to buy the expansion. Stealth was something always missing from GW, it'll be like playing my rogue!

I think the idea of stealth for PvP or GvG will be harder to implement. I doubt they'll make a character invisible. Possibly the character will have a smaller danger circle for PvE or not be detected by guards inside a guild hall unless attacked. I think the spells/skills will focus more on attack spike. This would act like the old air spikers but with daggers or something similar. You would be able to get off massive amounts of damage with a few skills if you hit the target correctly (say from behind). Also, I think the assassin could have great skills for enchantment or maintained enchantment removal. Imagine an interrupt that causes target foe to lose all maintained enchantments. Especially tough on blessed signet monks. I think there are so many other options than stealth that the assassin could fulfil. Plus, I think that stealth would detract from the game more so than it would add to it.

As Duo already knows I'm in the "please gawd no, don't ever add assassin/thief/rogue classes to PvP" camp. Nothing ruins PvP more than characters that can hide and are designed for soloing. Not that I'm against assassins, they work wonderfully in a game like Shadowbane were you can kill and steal at will, but they just don't belong in a team vs team game.
Maybe A.net will find a way for them not to ruin PvP, but I'm guessing this is a class for the PvEers that will be either shunned or hated in PvP.

Well, they didn't ruin Diablo II. I rather liked them, actually. Maybe this will give an effective "trapper" class in Guild Wars... ;D
