So what do you all think of Nightfall now that we've had a day and a half to play it? I really think they did a fantastic job balancing level gaining and combat. By contrast, with Factions they dumped so much experience on you through quests that you were level 20 in a matter of hours and every combat was with very high level critters all the time. With NF, there's a gradual increase of leveling, just like in the Proficies campaign. I noticed yesterday that my pet Crocodile, at level 5 when the rest of the party was 15, wasn't dieing constantly like it would have been in Factions. By the time it had gotten to level 14 it had died only 3 times. Also, the quests are set up better I think. There are still too many quests but you can skip most of them and move through the game fairly quickly if you choose to. And MOST of them can be found in outposts. Factions had them all over the explorable map and it was challenging just to find a missing quest at times. And the epic battle to take the mainland was totally intense! Anet did a fantastic job with that. I almost want to start another character just to do that battle again. And now that I'm on the mainland, I'm finding that it's challenging without being suicidal. Factions was so hard that it was certain that you would die over and over and over and over. Nightfall turned out to be a very good release and I think I'm going to enjoy playing it for 6 months.

Well I am perhaps being overly 'farmish' for Sunspear Points, but that said, I too am enjoying the game. The scary thing is, my Dervish is at level 8 and is still eligible for 'Survivor'... I'm sure that will change sometime soon, but that is a stark contrast to my poor Sin and Rit that both got slaughtered by the level 12 Red Yeti in the mountains outside the monastary (and eveyother character I've rolled that died to scale or spiders or skeletons in Pre-Sear). Update: HA! Thanks to the Skree, I don't have to worry about that survivor title anymore .

I like NF a lot better than Factions even with the pain of 8 to 4 to 8 member partys. This along with having to have a hero for certain quests/missions caused us to split up a number of times. The plot and cut scenes are thousand times better. The monster are cooler. They have to do something about the preists running away when you attack. And they also messed up farming faction in ZC making it almsot impossible to farm with henchies. The battle for the mainland was intense. Almost impossible to do by yourself. We got masters with 5 real people who were all around level 15 and 3 heroes. Qnother question that came up was what about the 30 attributes points you get from Quests. How do the Heroes get this last 30. Well it looks like they get 15 exta points upon reaching level 10 an 15. Oh and X my Elonan char had no deaths until around level 10 until I let Presort monk for us. on the whole I give NightFall a 9 out of 10.

The battle for the mainland was intense. Almost impossible to do by yourself. We got masters with 5 real people who were all around level 15 and 3 heroes. I actually did it alone, 3 hero's and 4 Henchies and got the bonus too. Was touch and go at times. The trick I learned right away with taking out the command posts was to fully engage the fight by running straight through them. If you stand back and lob missiles at them, they drop bombs on your head and you die fast. I almost lost he mission trying to figure that out. X, I just rolled past the 4000 Promo point mark myself so I know what you mean about farming adiction. Going for the 7500 rank that comes after General... Ah yes. Castellen.

Jsut a little update. I now farm ZC with my trapper ranger and a as/ra hero, and a necro/ra hero. I do have to micro manage the heroes to lay traps but it is woprking pretty well.
BTW you can get 2k Bals faction in tha same amount of time that you used to get 1k.
Also I think the new insignias that go on armor are in addition to the rune. Can anyone confirm this?

The inginias are the armor bonuses I.E. health, energy, +armor and whatnot. So yes, they go on with runes

I also give Nightfall a thumbs up. It seems much more cohesive than Factions, play-wise and story-wise. I think it's going to be a hit. It's a shame that this wasn't Chapter Two. The GW community lost a lot of momentum due to the drop-off in play after disappointment with Factions. Heroes and templates are an immense improvement to the game. It's fun to put "Charge!" on my wa hero, so I can zip through some of those step-and-fetch-it quests a little more quickly. And I can finally have an ele hench who doesn't spam meteor shower all the time... That being said, there's a LOT more to keep up with. All those heroes need equipping, and my inventory is always full because I'm afraid to sell anything since a hero may be able to use it later. Sollo, I agree that the Consulate Docks mission is a winner. What an epic battle. They did an excellent job with that one. I think it's one of the best I've seen across all three chapters. I haven't played any missions after that one, but Asya tells me they just keep getting better. X, I lost my Survivor title to the Skree as well. Must be something about them. Maybe it's all rigged.

This is a great release.
Another cool thing about the quest to take the mainland is that we get to run it for canthan / tyrian characters too.
The necro Hero, he's a shockingly good MM. If you haven't tried that yet, I highly recommend it.
Question: How do we name a Hero's pet?

My review:
I've got 3 words to say about Nightfall -- WOW!! WOW!!! and WOW!!!!!!
Having played through most of the mission storyline, the missions are amazing, unique, and offer mechanics in a game to which no other MMO/RPG to date can compete. The blending of outposts and explorable areas is stunning. This integration re-enforces the storyline and emerces the player in the feeling of natural progression.
The outstanding sound effects and andrenaline pumping music gets the heart racing at exactly the right times. The Guild Wars graphics, the standard by which all other games are measured, only improves with Nightfall. From the detailed magic carpet bridges, to the majestic sweeping landscape, close attention is paid by the graphic artists and oh does it show.
Heroes work exceptionally well and give players the opportunity to 'trick out' and 'pimp my toon'. The hero mechanics give players the option to solo through the game, or to just fill-out the rest of a party when IRL players are unavailable.
A much overdue feature prior versions of Guild Wars lacked is now included with the Nightfall update which is templates. The ability to save and later load skill bars, attributes, and weapon sets (PvP-Only) relieves players from common mistakes and speeds character set-up. This is a complete 180 from the 'refund points' introduced and later removed in the original GW release. Players can easily exchange and trade builds.
Grind is virtually non-existing execpt for gaining some aribitrary points early on in the game.
Gamers should not walk to the store to get this title, they should stampede and snatch it off the shelves. Arena.net defines the genre of online RPG making Nightfall destined to be RPG of the year.
Rating: 9.999999/10 (drop the requirements on points for a 10)
And a follow-up to Sollo's post. I didn't think the missions could get any better than the docks. Well, I was WRONG!!!

Well, I finished last night about 10pm. Me==fully wrapped for four days ~ Me very happy. It is possible to 'over farm' for promotion points. I was castellan within minutes of reaching Vabbi and since then no one will give me bounties anymore. I suppose I'll be farming for lightbringer points instead. Since I did not do any but the required quests in Istan, perhaps I can gain enough prom points from quests there to recieve me Spearmarshall title? Time will tell I guess, it's a lot of friggin quests (too many).

FINISHED?! Oh my goodness. Nightpearl and I are still on the island. Then again, we're doing every quest and he's kind of a promotion point farmer. I'm loving the fact that you can stumble across a village in an explorable area and, after watching a funeral or discussion or something, pick up a totally random quest. I also like how the areas keep changing based on what you do. IE, you clear out the harpies, but then the corsairs take up residence. I'm having to work very hard to stay away from spoilers tho. :-)

Doh! I forgot about the extra quests that sometimes pop up, like the one from the old storyteller on Shing Jea Island in That-Chapter-Which-We-Shall-Not-Name. C'mon over to the mainland, Aeron and Nightpearl. It's a hell of a swim to get here, but you gain promo points at four times the normal rate.

Grand Court of Sebelkeh mission : Guildwiki had a good idea if you've just got heroes and henchies. Use the flag to capture 2 rifts, then join them to do the 3rd one. I guess it got patched because I did it with my Ranger but now the enemies start moving once my toon team starts moving away from me. Guess I'll have to be more social and get with real people to do that mission again. Angel, aka Deathangel.
