Last night I FINALLY made it through the Elona's Reach Mission. (Thanks to all of you that helped me through my many attempts. Turns out all I needed was 1 partner, 2 henchies, and intermittent lag in order to get it. This morning I thought I'd give it a shot against my doppleganger. She killed me first, but as I was using poison she bit the bucket not long after me. When she died, dialogue window indicated that I earned 50,000 XP and the Monk's Path quest. However, when I got back to Augury Rock, the Monks Path Quest was not in my quest log. I was able to get back into the Ascension quest to try to beat my dopleganger again. This leads me to think that there's a bug here that needs to be reported to ANet lest others exploit it. Earning hundreds of thousands of XP for one fight seems bad. Am I right? Or was this just a kooky experience? Or is this what is supposed to happen? -A

well you have to die before your mirror to do it, so it would be impossible to do it many times,a nd if you slip up once then you pass it and cant do it again. Id say its a bug, so report it to Anet.

This is still happening? This was the EXPLOIT that Anet supposedly fixed last week (see updates/news page at guildwars.com) that got some people banned. They were banned for doing this for hours... not once or twice for testing...
So, yes report to Anet that this is still possible... they need to tighten their code somehow.

I just snuck in to try again and managed to finish her off. Instead of 50,000 XP, I got 100 XP. I forgot to check if I have the Monk's Path quest or not in the quest log. Seems like you can't keep getting thousands of XP at least. I still reported to Anet.

Ah... well the exploit is closed while the bug (credit for the mission after dying) is still there.. that's ok I guess.

Yeah, the exploit people were using was to win, earn their 50k XP, then immediately close the program. After you relaunched and logged back in, you had the 50k XP but did not have credit for completing the mission, so you could redo it for another 50k XP (bombing out of the program again, wash, rinse, repeat). They weren't manipulating the game in-game, they were manipulating the software for an in-game effect. And some people find it odd that they were banned for this -- this was as much a "hack" as any program patching hack would be.
Anyhow, that's the exploit that was fixed.
You can go beat the doppleganger as many times as you want, even after you've finished the mission successfully. You just shouldn't get 50,000 XP any time but the first.

This is just a bug, then, not an XP exploit. Now I just wonder why the Monks Path quest hasn't shown up in my quest log.

Interesting thread, I wondered if this had ever happened before...
I saw it happen last night while watching H-Jar (Viking Strike) ascend. She died just ahead of the doppleganger, got the exp bonus but didn't jump to the next mission city.
Gaining 4 levels for killing the doppleganger made it significantly easier for her to ascend on the next attempt. ;D
She did not get the big exp bonus on the next attempt.
<OT>Anyone up for Dragon's Lair tonight? </OT> <OT>What is the customary Post-Ascending drink? </OT>
