Ok -- because I know we have folks who can talk about this (come on we are all nerds) .... I think I've seen almost all the original Star Trek episodes -- my step-dad was a huge fan of them so I watched them growing up and also saw all the feature films as well. But going back to the question when did Spock and Kirk first meet? I'm not positive -- but I think they actually met when Kirk was assigned to the Enterprise as Capt. -- after Cpt. Pike left the helm. Spock had served on Pike's Enterprise while he was still going through the academy (I think). Because if you think back to the episode where Spock is on trial for sneaking the injured Pike back to the freaky planet with mind control ( with the big head aliens that makes ugly people pretty and makes Pike able to walk again ) Kirk is completely surprised as to Spock's prior life on Cpt Pike's Enterprise. Mind you I may be wrong and if there's someone out there that knows better please correct me!

I'm not sure when Kirk and Spock first met but the parts of the show with Cpatian Pike are from the pilot for Star Trek called The Cage and the two part show from the series was called The Minagerie.
Notice that number 1 in the pilot is the same actor as the nurse in the series. I beleive she was Roddenberry's wife.

Okay, check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Spock and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_T._KirkSelected clips below: Kirk began his Starfleet career as a Cadet in 2250. Upon his graduation from Starfleet Academy in 2254, Kirk was promoted to a full Lieutenant and served aboard the USS Farragut. Spock served for nearly eleven years under Captain Christopher Pike. In the early 2260s, Spock was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and assigned a dual commission as both the Executive Officer (or First Officer) and Senior Science Officer of the Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk. (Seems like while Spock rose through the ranks of a cadet then ensign aboard the Enterprise he might have had reason to bump into Kirk at the Academy.) --Presort

(Seems like while Spock rose through the ranks of a cadet then ensign aboard the Enterprise he might have had reason to bump into Kirk at the Academy.) Okay -- yeah maybe -- but only if Spock was tutoring Kirk for a class. Because you sooo know that Spock would have been hanging out at the library and Kirk would have been drilling peep holes into the girl's locker room so he could see that hot green-chick in his "alien anatomy" class.

Oh come on... Kirk was the man. He did not need to drill peep-holes. He was doing a different kind of... well you get my point. Even in his cadet days Kirk was a player. I mean what would be the point of joining Starfeet if not to explore strange new alien races? lol

Took this from a review of MI:III in the New York Times: Mr. Hoffman enlivens "Mission: Impossible III," which otherwise droops, done in both by the maudlin romance and by Mr. Abrams's inability to adapt his small-screen talent — evident in his capacity as the television auteur behind "Alias" and "Lost" — to a larger canvas. The action remains consistently lackluster despite the usual frantic editing and several stunts that should pop off the screen. Typical of Mr. Abrams's difficulty in getting a grip on big-screen action is an extravagant feat that finds Ethan BASE-jumping from one high-rise to another, a stunt that, because it was filmed mostly in extreme long shot and at night, might as well have been executed by Spider-Man's computer-generated avatar. A daytime battle on a bridge works better, largely because you can see Mr. Cruise panting amid the bullets and mayhem. Doesn't bode well for the new ST movie. Neither does the rumor that Ben 'cardboard" Affleck is in talks to play Kirk.

Sorry he's still the swarmy guy from Mallrats in my mind. Don't care to see him in any film.

Hey at least he was fun in Good Will Hunting and Dogma...oh wait he was paired with Matt Damon then and that could be the reason... can't let Damon show him up in his only good movies.

Kelkhil was telling me about his last couple of posts in here, and it went something like this: Kelkhil: It's rumored Ben Affleck might be playing Kirk in the next Star Trek movie. Me: No! Kelkhil: Yeah, and then Inda said that in her mind Ben Affleck will always be that guy from Mallrats. Me: Oh yeah, he is rather swarmy like that character... Kelkhil: That's the word she used! (great minds think alike)

Here's the WIKIPedia article that summarizes..take it for what you will. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_XII kind of hope they don't revisit old characters with new actors--something new and fresh would be great. Am just (im)patiently awaiting season 3 of BSG. And I don't believe Morbs' spoiler about *******! Makes no sense! (although maybe DOES help the story regain some focus?).

And I don't believe Morbs' spoiler about Makes no sense! (although maybe DOES help the story to make Galactica the sole focus again). Errrr, please don't post potential spoilers like that. I wasn't expecting a BSG surprise in the Trek thread...

I'm sorry Eld! I wrote that at the coffee shop and, as I drove away to come back to my hotel here, I realized the bomb I'd just dropped. I just logged back in to edit the post to try to prevent what you already got spiked with...will see if I can do it now...
EDIT: OK, my original post has been de-spoilered! Again, sorry for the slip! Maybe Fate can modify his, too, to de-spoiler it...?

Happy Birthday, Star Trek. It debuted 40 years ago today, following an episode of Daniel Boone. It returns to syndication this fall with remastered episodes featuring all new CGI special effects for the space scenes. Too bad they can't replace the cardboard sets and styrofoam rocks with CGI...

Prolly way too late already I suppose, but no big deal to me since I haven't watched more than 5 hours of programming for grown ups over the last 4 years. Not counting the occasional movie on cable after kids are in bed.
