I know you've all seen the ads and trailers. NOW GO SEE THE MOVIE!
Honestly, this movie was well worth it. Fantastic visuals, very good acting, all the right stuff. The only bad part of the movie, that little girl, just something about her...
This is easily the best Sci-fi/action movie I've seen in a long time (Hitchhiker's was good too). Lots of suspence, drama, action, well worth your $5!
If anyone else sees it, post what you think.

The only bad part of the movie, that little girl, just something about her... She's spooky. I think she's the reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard.

I can't stand Tom Cruise (can only watch him in Legend b/c the Tim Curry factor over rides him) I would like to see it--but well...I think I may have to opt for brain eating zombies.

$5, our local theatre has $5 matine (sp?), but snacks are like $3 for a small popcorn, $3 for a small drink. Inda, even if you don't like Tom Cruise, he's covered with some much rubble, blood and sweat in this movie you can't tell it's him.

All of this GW vs WoW discussions drive me crazy! If people want to pay the extra money every month then do so. I'm sure that there are merrits to both. I didn't realize the monthly price for WoW varys depending on where you live. I've heard some people are paying $15 a month. Yoko, is the $5 a month, or per usage? I haven't seen Tom Cruise, but I have ran across Tom Cruise Jr. He seemed nice enough to me. Although I think he was already in a guild -- The Sciencetologist or something like that. Anyway the...
Waaaaaait. Where did that 't' come from? Wtf Oh! WotW. My bad. Disreguard. ^^

Hehe Asya, nothing like a good 'pop' at WoW I wish they would stop compaing GW to it I have to admit (Unless its PvP In which case FCUK WOW!!!!!!) *ahem* WotW is a good film, which makes a change for Tom Cruise, I think its only good because of spielbergs talents behind a camera. His talents and special effects makes it eye pleasing but it somehow does not beat the original film.... just me but pass me the original on dvd over the remake anyday Tal

but it somehow does not beat the original film.... just me but pass me the original on dvd over the remake anyday The original was not on dvd. It was a radio broadcast in 1938 that scared the shit out of people that heard it, especially on the East coast since it "took place" in New Jersey. Orson Welles was a genius Maybe if I'd been around in 1938 I wouldn't like aliens so much. And the guy that wrote the radio script took it from H.G. Wells who wrote a book of the same name in the late 1800's. Now that's the way to do it...use people's minds to create their own "visuals" of what may be happening just around the corner...much more frightening than anything on a big screen.

You can now buy the original on dvd morbs they simply put the audio on to it with some illistrations but some of the best illistrators in the world to fit the story along. its about $20 i think for you guys... try and find it... thats what i meant by originial

Hence the IMAGINATION instead of seeing crap on a screen/tv/whatever-the-hell-you-watch-it-on

No. No. Don't you remember the WotW TV show? It really was an invasion. They just covered it up and said it was a hoax.

I agree with Morbs (even if it sounded like I dint) I like imagination more (its why im a book worm ). Some films try to capture that but dont... Athlough I recall a horro movie once from the late 60's early 70's that had 'something' in a house killing people and animals and causeing all hell and you NEVER saw what it was... no shadows to give its shape etc... its was a very amazing film based on film noir in some sense too. Loved it If i remember the name ill let you know. Anyway, the UK's BBC 1 & 2 had reruns of the WotW tv show and film yesterday right before Live8 coverage kicked in. Tal

Wasn't that an ep of Project Blue Book?
On topic: Just saw WotW, and I thought it was fine summer entertainment, though nowhere near as scary as Signs. Now that was one SCARY flick.

Just saw it. Wow. I loved. I have nothing bad to say about it(that is saying a lot for the movie). Great special effects, acting, directing, screen play, etc. Best move I've seen since LOTR Return of the King excpet WotW wasn't near as long.
The only funny thing about it, when they first show the alien tripod machines didn't they kind of look lik the two legged imperial walkers from Star Wars?
My wife didn't like because she doesn't like Tom Cruise.

Saw The Island this weekend, and as much as I said that WotW was fine summer entertainment, I'm saying now that The Island is finer summer entertainment.
It's brainier; though it's no Solaris or AI. I mean, the heady stuff isn't all in the head. It's externalized, so you get characters who act and have adventures. This flick reminded me at times of Logan's Run, The Running Man, Minority Report and The Fugitive. The Island also has a great score - forgot to check on the composer - but can tell you that like the score in Pirates of the Carribbean did, this score adds a notable auditory dimension to the film.
And best of all - NO TOM CRUISE!

-----Oh, potential minor spoilers below------ LOL on the no Tom Cruise thing. I liked WOTW, but was bizarrely bothered by little bitty details like: why does everyone else on the planet need to eat except for Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning? Or what possible biological function did the red fungus play? Or, if they've been watching us for that long, surely they've witnessed plague before and should understand how germs work? Or, if the aliens are taking our major cities, why would you flee towards BOSTON instead of oh, say, the Adirondack Mountains? To avoid such detail oriented critiques, I saw Wedding Crashers this weekend. I think I've had some of the biggest laughs ever in my life at certain points. But then also got really bored when the stereotypical characters stopped being interesting. I think the funniest part for me was having to ignore my fiance during the montage of different weddings at the beginning when he kept thinking of things we had to do for ours or getting new ideas of stuff. IE-nudge nudge "Psst, that reminds me, we have to ask the florist about X." Yes, this is my fiance, the game playing BOY.

Em the red fungus wrnt fungus as such... it was the 'left overs' of our internal blood system... i.e. veins and the such... how it was growing is a msytery to me but thats what it was. anyway i have the same critiques as you rofl.

Now I REALLY don't get it. Our ground up veins and arteries somehow reformed themselves with other peoples veins and arteries into plant like things that somehow were red even though it's the oxygenated blood that's red not the arteries themselves.
Glad you're with me, Tal.

My thoughts excatly... glad to see someone educated in biology... around my area no one understands that its just not realistic towards the veins and arteries.

Okay first of all. Yes you would think and advanced civilization would have advanced doctors and drugs. However, this was how the book was written in the late 1800s.
The fungus was not in the first move. I can't remember if it was in the book but I think it was part of some terra forming the martians were doing.
Another thing did the martians not bring any diesease with them? I wonder if a plague would breakd out on the earth afterwards.

You're right. I think part of my problem is that I was judging the story as it would be written today, not in it's historical context.
I also think you're right and that they were bound to bring some kind of foreign bacteria or virus.
Lastly, the red viny fungus stuff was just too creepy/prevelant for them to not explain. Both how the heck it grew and why, besides just being scary/gross.
